Thank you DRMAA!

It was great to find Tim, N0TJA wandering around the DMRAA Hamfest in Des Moines today, where I enjoyed mixing with the crowd and checking out all the treasures that the vendors and fellow hams had to offer.

I got to speak with some hams I knew previously, met some I didn’t, and put some faces to calls. I stopped by the Repeater Council meeting, where I got a few questions answered, and a little more idea of what I still need to do for a repeater in Lake View. I didn’t plan to buy anything, but I have been keeping my eyes open for coax, so I couldn’t really resist scoring a deal on a couple short lengths. The purchase that surprised me was the really good deal on a Bencher dual-paddle key… I’m still re-learning my code, so I really don’t need a key right now… but I guess the offer was just too good to pass up.

Fellow hams never fail to impress. Even when I wasn’t making a purchase, I sometimes received sage advice, history, and even helpful hints from the experienced… such as more suggestions and ideas on how to address the problem issues in my TS-940s throws from time to time. Lastly, I came away with some new ideas and thoughts for things to try, test, and do in the future.

As the Hamfest was wrapping up, they started to announce the winners of the final door prizes. I heard them announce the $100 DX Engineering gift certificate, and was hoping that I was the winner… but they announced N0TJA’s name and call instead. Bummer for me, but glad to know that he was fortunate enough to win it. Then they called the winner for the last prize, the MFJ-225 Graphical Antenna Analyzer, I had to check to make sure that I heard the winner correctly… I had. Seems that good fortune favored our club today. Tim and I walked away with two of the top door prizes that the DMRAA had to offer this year.

Thank you to the Des Moines Radio Amateurs’ Association (DMRAA) for hosting this wonderful event for all of us… and for the great prizes we were lucky enough to win!
